Hoiho (Room 4) worked on the ‘Matariki Board’ with Mrs Ellis and Nicole to create a masterpiece. You can view the board and the other schools boards at the Matakohe Kauri Museum.
Our School were asked to recreate a whakataukī for the Puriri tree:
Ka kata ngā pūriri ō Taiamai: The laughing puriri trees of Taiamai.
Taiamai is a name for the fertile heartland of the Bay of Islands. This Ngapuhi saying celebrates the beauty and perfection of nature and is a term of honour addressed to a welcome guest.
