Every Thursday the students and teachers take part in Discovery Time. The students can choose and plan a project which the teachers support them in achieving. The key competencies and school values play an important role in this learning.

Key competencies are the capabilities people have, and need to develop, to live and learn today and in the future.
The New Zealand Curriculum identifies five key competencies:

- Using language, symbols, and texts
- Managing self
- Participating and contributing
