Pukekaroro

Pukekaroro is the maunga (mountain) Kaiwaka School sits under. It is of great importance to Te Uri o Hau. From the very top, you can see Mangawhai Heads to the east and the entrance of the Kaipara Harbour to the west.

Otamatea Marae

Otamatea Marae is the tupuna marae for the Ngāti Whātua tribal people. It was established by order of the Māori Land Court on 14 August 1946.Aotearoa our wharenui was the original whare rūnanga for Ngāti Whātua and was relocated from Shelly Beach to its present position in remembrance of our tupuna who lost their lives in 1825.

Oruawharo Marae

Ōruawharo marae is located 22km north west of Wellsford, on the corner of Ōruawharo School Road. This Ngāti Whatua marae is associated with the tribal grouping of Te Uri o Hau, hapū include Ngāti Mauku, Ngāti Kauae, Ngāti Kura, Ngāti Tāhinga and Ngāi Tāhuhu. The wharenui is called Rangimārie, the wharekai is named Te Pohara and the whare karakia is known as Nuhaka. The marae connects with the mountain named Pukekaroro.

Te Pounga Marae

Te Pounga marae is situated in Kaiwaka in the eastern reaches of the Kaipara Harbour. It was built at the rear of an old homestead that housed many bishops of Aotearoa, including Bishop Bennett. The marae belongs to Te Uri o Hau iwi of Ngāti Whātua. The marae connects with the maunga Pukekaroro and the wider Kaipara Harbour.
